With your face very close to the pavement you can see a lot of grit and dirt and things that people have dropped. If you go really close then you can see the little insects and bacteria crawling around in the dirt. And if you go really, really close, then you can see the atoms themselves, spinning and vibrating and such. And then, inevitably, some idiot will shout at you to get out of the way or ask if you are alright …
