Beginning with his work on the Belvedere Torso in 2010, the artist has been mining the histories of these amputated heroes of art. His entire method, from building matrices of aluminum walkers to casting concrete using a patchwork of plastic tree-gator bags and insulation foam show an artist literally re-imagining production with a gift for ingenuity and invention. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bureau-inc.com\/mainsite\/Exhibitions\/2012\/2012-MatherlyPAF.html\">&#8218;New Beaches&#8216;<\/a>, depicting Laoco\u00f6n&#8217;s head and arm seems to hover above its base of thirty-one walkers, as if no point is carrying even a fraction of its five thousand pounds.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mitue\/31408875695\/in\/dateposted\/\" title=\"Laokoon3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5753\/31408875695_30e622e9cf.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"492\" alt=\"Laokoon3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bei den Skulpturprojekten 2017 in M\u00fcnster sahen wir &#8222;<a href=\"http:\/\/mitue.de\/?p=6123\">Nietzsches Felsen<\/a>&#8220; von Justin Matherly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In der Sommerausstellung der K\u00f6nig Galerie wird die Arbeit New Beaches von Justin Matherly aus dem Jahr 2012 gezeigt.
